How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

August 24, 2016

Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have some more heat coming. Just because the date on the calendar has changed over to fall doesn’t mean you’re done with your AC for the season. Staying on top of annual AC maintenance, while also following a handful of other pointers, can help you maintain your air conditioner while keeping your home comfortable too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can pile up around your outside unit, specifically during the fall. When the time comes to rake up the leaves in your yard, at least rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can impact air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down sooner. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it can.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Keep your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still being comfortable. Whenever possible, take advantage of other cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to get to that temperature. You may think turning your unit off completely will save on energy and help your system, but that just creates more ground for it to make up when you switch it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is something else that could lead to untimely system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with regular, annual AC maintenance is so important.
